PARHAM ITAN

Today's manga is a neat little horror story that I picked up on my latest trip to 2nd & Charles (it's basically a giant Books-A-Million only you can sometimes pick up secondhand books there). Written by Kaili Sorano, it definitely has an interesting premise.

The main character is Yamagishi, a short teenager that wants to be a boxing champion. After staying late at school one day to get some more practice in, he runs into Sendo, an intelligent conspiracy nut. The two accidentally run into a young man, one that seems to be under the weather. When they try to help him, the man's face morphs into a giant plant with tentacles that seems rather intent on devouring them.

As luck would have it the gardener appears and is promptly killed. As the boys flee they run into a strange man that fights the monster. The two boys eventually make their way to the school chapel only to find the strange man's bloody corpse inside. frightened and not wanting to get involved with the police, the two agree not to mention anything and go their separate ways.

Yamagishi tries to act normal the next day but his performance is put in jeopardy when Sendo informs him that the bodies are gone and everything looks normal again. He tries to act tough but, eventually, winds up at the chapel to see for himself. Much to his dismay, Yamagishi finds himself back at the school that night with Sendo, as they try to investigate what exactly happened.

Things take an unexpected turn when the strange man shows up, alive and well, confirming to them that he had indeed been killed. After being attacked once again, the three find themselves trapped inside the chapel. Sendo searches for a way out while Yamagishi and the stranger fight off the monsters that trapped them. Even when Sendo finally does discover a way out, they are approached by yet another stranger, one that seems to be the one controlling the monsters.

In conclusion, I liked this manga. The story is good and so is the artwork, while there is some gore in it the book isn't overflowing with it. The characters are definitely interesting and I can't wait to get the second volume (if it's been released yet lol). See you guys next time!
