This is a short series, only containing three volume which is why I waited until I had finished it before I did a review of it. I was lucky enough to get the first two volumes in an Alice in Wonderland lot that I found on Ebay and then, all I had to do, was buy the last volume separately. It was a really good read with an interesting twist on the original Alice In Wonderland series.
The story follows Makoto, a rather ordinary boy who got sucked into a book where he and Alice switched bodies. But this isn't the real version of Alice, she is just an ordinary girl herself that happens to be obsessed with weapons and finding her way home to see her sister. stuck in Alice's body, Makoto soon finds himself running into the White Rabbit, a soldier in the King of Hearts army.
The King of Hearts has allied himself with monsters, ordering them to attack his citizens. Actions like this have caused rebels to spring up, quite a few of whom are his own soldiers. This includes the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, Dormouse (who is only there because he's obsessed with Makoto), the Cheshire Cat, and Dum whose brother still serves the King loyally.
Makoto and Alice are able to convince them to help lead them to the palace where a magic portal that can take them back to their world awaits. Despite the fact that everyone knows Makoto is really a boy stuck in a girl's body, all of their new companions insist on hitting on him, especially the Hatter. To Makoto's dismay, he is rapidly growing attached to each of them.
After finally making their way to the palace they are quickly separated with Makoto and Hatter winding up in a labyrinth, run by the Jabberwock who doesn't like the fact that they are trying to take down the King as it interferes with his business. Thankfully, they are able to escape and regroup with the others.
A final confrontation with the King reveals the true reason for his hatred, he had fallen in love with Alice's older sister and was dismayed when she chose to return home. Hurt and angry, he had decided to lash out at everyone and was quite eager to kill Alice as she resembled her older sister. Fed up with everything, Makoto chewed him out, causing him to understand just how wrong his actions were.
Unfortunately for Alice and Makoto, the portal had been destroyed in the fight, something that didn't upset either of them as much as they anticipated. Makoto in particular, was happy to have an excuse to stay by Hatter's side.
There is supposed to be a sequel to this in the form of a game, but I like the ending of this so I'm not going to play it. I may one day but not right now. Feel free to check back soon!
