High-Rise Invasion

My manga pick for this week is High-Rise Invasion. It is a horror-esque, gore-filled story and I love it! I've only read the first six volumes so far but it's shaping up to be a really good series.

The main premise is that normal people from our world are sucked into an alternate dimension. There are only skyscrapers, with rope bridges connecting the rooftops. The main protagonist, Yuri, is desperately searching for a way to find her big brother again. Along the way she runs into "masks", people who wear masks that are armed and ready to kill at a moment's notice. The only way to avoid dying at their hands is by jumping off the roof and committing suicide.

After teaming up with a fellow survivor, Yuri learns of "god". "God" is a special person, who controls the entire world and is capable of sending everyone home. Those close to becoming "god" are left alone by the "masks" and are able to control them, effectively gaining bodyguards, depending on how many they can control determines how long they are able to survive.

Meanwhile, Yuri's brother is also searching for her and is the leader of a small group of survivors. The third group that the story follows is "Sniper Mask" and a young girl that is close to becoming "god". "Sniper Mask" cares for the girl, albeit unwillingly, and tries to help her find safety amongst Yuri's small band without getting killed himself.

It should be noted that the "masks" are actually regular people who found the masks along with a different weapon in a box and tried the mask on. Afterward, they found themselves unable to disobey the commands of the mask and became little more than zombies. should the masks be damaged or destroyed they are then ordered to commit suicide, with the exception of "Sniper Mask".

And there you have it! This week's manga pick is definitely a gory tale but also filled with horror and an intriguing story. Come back for next week!
